Trust is good, control is better

... preferably in our in-house laboratory.

Absolute reliability and long-term protection of the installed components against harmful environmental influences are the focus of our daily work. To ensure that our enclosures deliver what we promise, we test them for their upcoming tasks. We also test complete enclosure solutions, including the installed electronics, for our customers.

What are IP protection classes?

The degree of protection indicates the suitability of electrical equipment and components for different environmental conditions. It also describes the degree of protection of people against potential hazards when using them.

The classification in IP protection classes defines the degree to which an enclosure is protected against the ingress of water and foreign bodies, such as dust.

The so-called IP code comes from the English language and means “Ingress Protection ”. The protection classes are regulated in ISO 20653 or DIN EN 60529 and consist of 2 code numbers.

IP protection class tests

Dust protection (DIN EN 60529)

For the dust protection test in accordance with protection classes IP5X and IP6X, the enclosure is tested in a dust chamber for a defined period of time. A vacuum is generated in the enclosure and talcum powder is constantly whirled up in the test chamber of the test system. The enclosure is opened after the test and no talcum powder may have penetrated despite the vacuum generated.

  • Protection class IP5X:

Negative pressure: with or without 20 mbar
Test duration: 8 hours

  • Protection class IP6X:

Negative pressure: with 20 mbar
Test duration: 8 hours

Water protection / (hot) water jets / immersion / (DIN EN 60529)

For the water protection test according to IP X5, X6, X7, X8 and X9K the enclosure is tested using our test systems according to the defined parameters. We regulate the water temperature and can install different nozzles to control the water flow and water pressure. For our customers, we test fully installed products to avoid failures due to water ingress.

Test duration: 3 min

  • Protection against blasting water
  • Test with jet nozzle Ø = 6.3 mm
  • Water flow rate: 12 l/min
  • Water pressure: 30 kPa
  • Water temperature: Difference not greater than 5°C to the housing
  • Distance between housing surface and jet nozzle: 2.5 - 3.0 m

UV tests

Testing according to standard (UL746C)

The UV resistance of industrial enclosures is a decisive factor for the longevity and reliability of electronic devices. The UL746C standard provides a recognized method for evaluating the UV resistance of plastics and serves as a guide for the selection of suitable materials. The advantages of UV-resistant housings are obvious:

  • Increased service life of the device and reliable functionality
  • Preservation of aesthetic quality without discoloration and embrittlement
  • Cost savings by reducing downtime and repair costs
  • High customer satisfaction due to reliable function

Salt spray test

  • Salt spray test (DIN EN 9227:2012-09)

In our salt spray chamber we use salt spray to create a corrosive atmosphere. Under these conditions, the corrosion process is accelerated in comparison to a normal installation environment. This enables us to detect weak points in the enclosures and accessory components before series production and to take appropriate countermeasures.

Pre-treatment: Cross cut according to DIN EN ISO 2409
Dilution: Sodium Chloride: 50 ± 5 g/l
PH value: 6.5 - 7.2
Water temperature: 35 ± 2 °C
Test duration: 1,000 h
